Can an Alibaba.com row go into HooBuy?
Not through the link format we know. HooBuy builds product links as hoobuy.com/product/{code}/{item ID} with 0 for 1688, 1 for Taobao and 2 for Weidian. Nothing in that list stands for Alibaba.com, and HooBuy's help centre does not say it buys from there. We did not paste an Alibaba.com link into HooBuy on 26 October 2026, so we cannot say what it would do.
The Alibaba name does appear on HooBuy's pages, but only in legal notes: its prohibited-goods list defers to announcements from the Alibaba platform, and an intellectual-property note says buyers must not infringe third-party rights on that platform. That is a compliance line, not a buying instruction.
HooBuy is also on Hold on this site (see HooBuy status), so a supplier row is a poor first test of it.
Treat an Alibaba.com link as unsupported at HooBuy until its support says otherwise.
Three Alibaba-group sites that get mixed up
| Site | What it is | HooBuy code | HooBuy's stance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alibaba.com | Business marketplace with supplier listings and quotes (general description) | None | Not described in the help centre |
| 1688 | Chinese wholesale-style marketplace | 0 (untested) | No quality guarantee; limited sampling and after-sales |
| Taobao | Consumer marketplace founded by Alibaba Group on 10 May 2003 | 1 (login redirect) | Check seller hearts and deposit; see the Taobao page |
Because the group name is shared, a spreadsheet tab called "Alibaba" can hold any of the three. Check the web address before you assume anything: the 1688 page shows what HooBuy's own rule says about that site.
Read the domain, not the tab name, to know which rules apply.
Finding the 1688 twin of a supplier listing
If the same product is on 1688, you can use a normal agent row. This is a manual match, not a guarantee.
- Save the supplier link and the product title in your row.
- Search 1688 for the same title, main photo and specifications.
- Compare the yuan price and options with the supplier quote.
- Copy the 1688 offer ID into the HooBuy link converter, which builds the code 0 link and agent links.
If no match turns up, the product may be a different factory's, and the agent route is closed for that row. Keep the supplier link and move on, or contact the supplier yourself.
A matching 1688 ID turns a supplier lead into an ordinary agent row.
Samples and bulk: when an agent adds little
An agent adds order handling, warehouse inspection and one combined parcel. HooBuy advertises free quality inspection and consolidation, with usually 3 standard photos and detailed photos at ¥1 each. What an agent does not add is a bulk contract, a factory visit or a negotiated price. If you want 200 pieces, deal with the supplier directly and read its terms; none are in our notes.
For a small sample set, the freight is the known cost. HooBuy's estimator quoted ¥196.40 (€28.42) for 2,000 g to Germany on DHL europe package-f1 on 26 October 2026, weight only; Italy was ¥198.00 (€28.65) on the same line. Add the sample price, VAT and, for EU parcels up to €150, the temporary €3 duty per tariff category. Parcels over 10 KG are more likely to be treated as commercial in HooBuy's help centre.
Use an agent for a few pieces to your door; go direct only when quantity is the point.
If the row is really a retail find
Some "Alibaba" tabs in spreadsheets may hold retail finds from Taobao or Weidian listings. Compare open agents on our alternatives page; Superbuy's fee page states no service fee on Taobao, Tmall, JD and 1688, and the agent hub lists the rest. For a supplier-sized order, send the details through the contact page first.
Classify the row first, then pick the route.
What HooBuy buyers ask
Does HooBuy buy from Alibaba.com?
Its pages do not say so. HooBuy's link format has codes for 1688, Taobao and Weidian only, and its fee article names Taobao, Tmall, 1688 and other consumer sites, not Alibaba.com. The word Alibaba appears in its legal notes on prohibited goods and intellectual property. We did not test an Alibaba.com link on 26 October 2026, so ask support before relying on one.
Is 1688 the same site as Alibaba.com?
No, though both belong to the Alibaba group. Alibaba.com is a business marketplace with supplier quotes; 1688 is the Chinese-language wholesale site that HooBuy's link code 0 covers. HooBuy's rules for 1688 give no quality guarantee and only limited sampling and after-sales, so the agent route is not a bulk-trade contract either.
What does a supplier sample cost to ship to Germany?
Only the freight is known to us. HooBuy's estimator quoted ¥196.40 (€28.42 at its rate of ¥6.91 per €1) for 2,000 g on DHL europe package-f1 on 26 October 2026, weight only. The sample price itself is the supplier's and varies by listing. Volumetric lines can bill more, so enter the box size.
When is buying direct from a supplier simpler than an agent?
When you want a larger quantity and the supplier ships internationally, because an agent adds consolidation and warehouse photos but does not negotiate a bulk contract. HooBuy also says parcels over 10 KG are more likely to be treated as commercial. For a few pieces to your own door, an agent route is usually simpler.
How do I find the 1688 version of an Alibaba.com listing?
Copy the product title and the main photo, then search 1688 for the same title and compare the image, specifications and yuan price. If the supplier names a factory or shop, look for it there. Treat a match as unconfirmed until the photo and options agree, and keep both links in your row.
