What "legit" can and cannot mean for a shopping agent
A shopping agent is legit if a real company runs it, it buys what you ask for, and parcels reach you. It is not legit-or-not in the sense of selling guaranteed-authentic goods, because an agent buys from third-party marketplaces and does not make the products. Searchers asking "is HooBuy legit", "é confiável", "è affidabile" or "fiable" often mix the two.
On the first question the evidence is split, which is why this site labels HooBuy Hold. Dated checks and the stuck-order timeline are on the HooBuy status page; this page covers who is behind HooBuy, what reviewers and app stores say, and what HooBuy does not promise.
Legit as a running agent: plausibly yes. Legit as in risk-free: no agent is.
Who is behind HooBuy: three company names
HooBuy's pages and app listings name three companies. Know which one your contract is with.
| Name | Where it appears | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| HYPERLAB TECHNOLOGY CO., LIMITED | Website footer; help-centre agreements | Number 71542255; Chase Business Centre, 39-41 Chase Side, London N14 5BP; operator of the registered-user services |
| 香港金石為開貿易有限公司 (a Hong Kong company) | Help-centre contact article | Unit E32, 1/F Selwyn Factory Building, 404 Kwun Tong Road |
| Levermore Limited | App Store developer; "Levermore" on Google Play | Publisher of the "Hoobuy: Buy direct from China" apps |
The help centre also disagrees about law: one article names Hong Kong law, another Chinese law with signature in Hangzhou. That is not a red flag alone, but a cross-border dispute could be harder to pursue. Support runs by email (hello@hoobuy.com) and the official Discord; our HooBuy support page has the ticket steps.
HooBuy's pages name an operator; which entity you would claim against is unclear from them.
Trustpilot: 3.7 stars, a split vote and a 4% reply rate
HooBuy's Trustpilot page showed a 3.7 TrustScore from 571 reviews on 26 October 2026, with 146 in the previous 12 months. The distribution is lopsided in both directions.
| Stars | 5 | 4 | 3 | 2 | 1 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Share of reviews | 64% | 3% | 2% | 2% | 29% |
Almost nobody sits in the middle. The newest reviews, dated 27 July to 15 September 2026, were all 1 star. The profile has been claimed since May 2024 and carries two lines that pull in opposite directions: "Typically replies within 24 hours" and "Replied to 4% of negative reviews". Both are Trustpilot's summaries of HooBuy's behaviour.
There is also a gap between that 3.7 and HooBuy's own data. Its site configuration carries a value labelled "trustpilotStarValue" set to 4.5. We cannot say where HooBuy displays it, and it may be a design setting; but it is not what Trustpilot reports. Quote the live profile, not a screenshot on a homepage.
3.7 with a 29% share of 1-star reviews and a 4% negative-reply rate is the number to use.
App stores: iOS 4.7 from 27 ratings, Android 2.6 from 199
HooBuy's web app links to two store listings. The iOS listing (developer Levermore Limited, US store) showed 4.7 from 27 ratings. The Google Play listing (developer Levermore) showed 2.6 stars from 199 reviews and 100K+ downloads. A 27-rating average moves with a handful of votes, so the Android figure carries more weight. Both rate the app, not order handling.
The listings also make claims in HooBuy's own voice: "24/7 English Support – Real humans, quick replies. No bots", delivery "as fast as 5-10 days", and payment "via PayPal, credit card, etc.". The help centre never mentions PayPal and lists cards, WeChat and Alipay. Details are on the HooBuy app page and the payment methods page.
A split app rating (4.7 versus 2.6) is another sign of an uneven experience.
Reclame Aqui and "é confiável": the Brazil view
Portuguese readers search "hoobuy é confiável" (is HooBuy reliable) and "hoobuy reclame aqui". Reclame Aqui is Brazil's main consumer-complaint site. On 26 October 2026, HooBuy's profile showed:
- Label "Não Recomendada" (not recommended) and company not verified.
- 30 complaints for 1 April to 30 September 2026, with 0% answered and 21 awaiting a reply.
- The most-cited problem was "Estorno do valor pago" (refund of the amount paid), at 21.62%.
Brazilian buyers also face the tax side, which no agent controls: a CPF (tax ID) is needed on the parcel, and the planilha (spreadsheet) rows you copy say nothing about "taxa das blusinhas", Brazil's nickname for the import tax on small purchases. Since 12 May 2026, Forbes Brasil (4 September 2026) reports, 0% federal tax applies up to US$50 only through platforms certified in Remessa Conforme, and we could not verify whether HooBuy is one of them; check the Receita Federal list yourself. See HooBuy customs and CPF and HooBuy to Brazil.
Reclame Aqui shows unanswered refund complaints; that, not the site, is the Brazilian concern.
What HooBuy does not promise
HooBuy states plainly what it will not vouch for. When you add a branded item, its Risk Reminder dialog says: "We lack the capability to authenticate its authenticity and can only offer procurement and basic quality inspection services. Any potential risks must be borne by you." Item pages add that goods come from third-party platforms and that HooBuy takes no liability for infringement of intellectual property. Its help centre puts confiscation and customs seizure risk on the buyer.
Its quality check is narrow too: colour, size, large-area damage, stains, model and version, but not thread detail or fit, and no power-on test. Customs can seize trademark-infringing goods, and neither the agent nor this site can undo that. The Risk Reminder page explains the pop-ups.
Legit does not cover authenticity, customs outcome or fit; those stay with you.
Safety checklist while HooBuy is on Hold
- Pay per order. Pay for each order and each parcel when you place it, instead of funding an account in advance.
- Start with one small order. Pick a cheap item, so a stuck order costs you little and shows you the real speed.
- Leave nothing in a HooBuy account. Refunds to a balance stay inside the system; refunds to a card go back to the card.
- Screenshot every order page with date, status and amount.
- Consider parcel insurance. The premium is 3% of item or declared value plus shipping. Take an example ¥250 jacket sent on the 1 kg Germany line quoted at ¥98.20: (250 + 98.20) × 3% = ¥10.45, about €1.51 at HooBuy's own rate of ¥6.91 per €1. Claim periods conflict inside the article (120 days versus 90), so use the shorter one.
- Report problems within 72 hours of delivery; HooBuy does not accept later reports.
See the insurance page for covers and exclusions. Prefer not to open an account at all? The contact page shows how to send us a row on WhatsApp.
Small, per-order, screenshotted: that is how to use a Hold agent.
For readers in Italy and France: recensioni, è affidabile, avis
Italian searchers type "hoobuy recensioni" (reviews) and "hoobuy è affidabile" (is it reliable). The Trustpilot and app-store figures above are what is available; there is no Italian-specific review source we could cite. Italy's customs and spedizione (shipping) details are on HooBuy to Italy.
French searchers ask for "hoobuy avis" (reviews) and "hoobuy fiable" (reliable). For frais de livraison (delivery costs) and French VAT, see HooBuy to France. If the data does not settle it for you, move the row: HooBuy alternatives lists nine open agents.
The same Trustpilot, app and Reclame Aqui evidence applies in every language.
What HooBuy buyers ask
Is HooBuy safe to use in 2026?
It is usable but carries a documented risk. HooBuy's site and estimator worked on 26 October 2026, yet Reclame Aqui lists 30 complaints from 1 April to 30 September 2026 with none answered. Our Hold label means pay per order, place one small order first and leave no money in a HooBuy account.
Is HooBuy a registered company?
Its website footer names HYPERLAB TECHNOLOGY CO., LIMITED, company number 71542255, at Chase Business Centre in London, and its help centre also lists a Hong Kong company. A named entity shows who is accountable on paper, though we did not check a company register. It does not show that refunds are paid promptly, which is exactly what complainants dispute.
Why is HooBuy's Trustpilot score 3.7 when its site data says 4.5?
Trustpilot showed 3.7 from 571 reviews on 26 October 2026. HooBuy's own site configuration carries a separate 'trustpilotStarValue' of 4.5, which we read in its public data. We cannot say where that figure is displayed. Trust the live Trustpilot page, and read the 1-star reviews alongside the 5-star ones before you decide.
Is HooBuy confiável (reliable) for buyers in Brazil?
The evidence is mixed. Reclame Aqui marks HooBuy 'Não Recomendada', shows 30 complaints for 1 April to 30 September 2026 and 0% answered, and says the company is not verified. Brazil also adds CPF and tax rules that no agent controls. On our Hold label, pay per order and start with a low-value parcel.
Does HooBuy guarantee that an item is genuine?
No. HooBuy's pop-up says it lacks the capability to authenticate branded items and offers only procurement and basic quality inspection, with any risk borne by you. Its item pages add a disclaimer on intellectual-property infringement. Legit as an agent means it buys and ships, not that the goods are authorised.
Does HooBuy insurance cover a stuck order?
The help centre describes cover for parcels: delay, customs and loss or damage, at a 3% premium on item value plus shipping. It does not describe cover for an order stuck at Purchased before dispatch. The premium is refunded if you cancel before dispatch, so insurance is a parcel tool, not a protection for paid-but-unshipped orders.
